Looking to book a holiday to Phuket, Thailand?
The 4-star Novotel Phuket Karon Beach Resort and Spa features 224 rooms and 7 accommodation options, ranging from standard rooms to plunge pool suites. Check out our earlier post for a review of the hotel and all the good stuff you can enjoy under the MyResorts suite of benefits for AccorHotels’ Le Club AccorHotels members (membership is free).
This post is for the foodies. Don’t worry about getting stuck with limited food options in the resort, Novotel Phuket Karon Beach has 3 restaurants – casual poolside dining at Joe Kool’s; Thai and regional cuisine at TAI restaurant and Horizon Cafe for buffet spreads.
We visited all three and here’s our review.
This is located beside the main Lagoon Pool near the lobby area. You can laze on a sun bed or chill out at the al-fresco area of Joe Kool’s as you enjoy your food Joe Kool’s.
The menu features a selection of international and local snacks, including many comfort food items like pizzas, steaks and burgers. A recommended item to order would be the award-winning Magnificent Joe burger, second runner-up at the Phuket Best Burger Competition 2017. The 2017 competition was open to restaurants, hotels and resorts in Phuket, and burgers were made and cooked live onsite.
These were the items we tried:
The restaurant is open from 11 am to 9 pm and is perfect for a cosy lunch after or before a dip in the pool.
If you prefer Asian food, TAI is the restaurant to go to for a culinary feast. The restaurant is located near the quiet Oasis Pool. To get there, follow the main path from the lobby area and turn right. TAI is open daily from 12 noon to 11pm.
Enjoy locally sourced products, succulent meats, and seafood all cooked to perfection. The signature dish at TAI is their Massaman Gai – traditional Thai southern aromatic curry scented with a blend of spices, garnished with chicken’s hip.
There is a Thai or Western 5 course set menu available at TAI at THB 2,500++ per set. These were the courses featured in each of the set.
It was a tough call to recommend between the Thai or Western option, but we will go for the Thai option because it’s always good to try some new flavours while in another country. For Singaporeans, the signature Mussaman curry tastes close to the curry we are used to in Singapore, but with a tangy note.
This restaurant is located at a quieter part of the resort and would be perfect for a romantic meal or if you want some quiet moments with your dining company.
Everyday at the resort starts with a delightful breakfast at Horizon Cafe. For parents with young kids, you will be delighted to know that breakfast is complimentary for a maximum of 2 children under 16 years old sharing parents’ room.
The restaurant operates from 6.30am to 10.30am daily, serving up your favourite Asian and international fares. Horizon Cafe is located on the second floor of the main building, just above the lobby area.
Continental breakfast items include pastries, bread, brioche, muffins, yogurts, cereals, fruits, salad, cheese, pancakes and crepes. Asian dishes include sushi, congee, stir fried noodles and fried rice. There is also an eggs live cooking station and a Western Hot section with gourmet sausage selections, cook ham, crispy bacon and potato hash.
These three restaurants should be able to cover most of your meals during your stay at the resort when you are too lazy to venture out for food.
Bon appetit!
