Gain On-The-Job Experience Plus Free Hotel Stay With Work For A Stay Programme

The inaugural Work For A Stay programme offers post-secondary institutions graduates and job seekers who are keen to work in the hotel industry, an opportunity to try a short-term work stint at various hotels in Singapore that comes with a free staycation.

First-hand, on-the-job experience in the hotel industry

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB), together with Singapore Hotel Association (SHA), have collaborated with 15 hotels in Singapore to offer a 10-day Work For A Stay programme to expose tertiary students and Singaporean & Permanent Resident (PR)job seekers to the day-to-day work operations and culture of the hotel industry.

This programme will enable participants to better understand the job scope and skills required in the industry. It is also part of efforts to help the industry build a strong pipeline of talent and a future-ready workforce while providing quality career opportunities for Singaporeans and PRs.

Participants’ exposure to the hotel operations will span across functions such as Housekeeping, Front Office, Banquet, among others. They will go through what hotel staff experience in their daily work routine and learn on the job; tasks can range from attending to guests’ ad-hoc requests to making special arrangements and preparations for events.

They will receive a training allowance and a one-night hotel stay upon completing the 10-day programme. Meals and uniforms will also be provided. The programme runs from 11 December 2017 to 30 March 2018.

Partnership with Workforce Singapore to attract locals into the industry

STB’s Work for a Stay programme is supported by Workforce Singapore (WSG)’s Work Trial and aims to attract jobseekers into the hotel industry.

The programme also aims to help jobseekers acquire skills and strengthen their employability and confidence through short-term stints with host employers, after which they can potentially be placed in new jobs with these employers.

Work Trial is part of WSG’s Adapt and Grow initiative which helps Singaporeans remain employable, with the relevant skillsets. Jobseekers will receive a training allowance to defray their expenses while undergoing Work Trial, as well as a retention incentive if they take up the job eventually.

The Work for a Stay programme is part of the Hotel Careers Campaign, which was launched in July 2017 by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), in partnership with the Singapore Hotel Association (SHA), Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union and the hotel industry.

Applications for Work for a Stay will end 28 Feb 2018. Interested applicants can visit this website to apply and find out more.
