Lindsay Davenport named 2017 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Legend Ambassador

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) in London, England, has announced three-time Grand Slam champion and former WTA World No.1 Lindsay Davenport as the latest BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore 2017 Legend Ambassador.

Davenport’s illustrious career

Davenport had a remarkable professional career winning 55 singles and 38 doubles titles. She holds an impressive record at the WTA Finals qualifying four times in singles, winning the singles title in 1999 and  winning three consecutive doubles titles from 1996–1998.

As a WTA Finals Legend Ambassador for the first time, Davenport will join fellow WTA Legends Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert and newly appointed Kim Clijsters to promote the WTA Finals throughout the year.

Davenport will be in Singapore to participate in community and fan engagements, host tennis clinics and interact with fans at the Fan Village and Racquet Club.

Davenport’s most memorable tennis experience

“One of the most memorable moments in my career was winning the WTA Finals when it was held in New York,” said Davenport. “I’m really excited to now return as an ambassador and am looking forward to experiencing the event with the current generation of top players in the amazing city of Singapore. It is going to be a lot of fun exploring the city, meeting the fans and soaking in the atmosphere of a tournament that I hold very close to my heart.”

Fans can see Davenport during the 10-day festival of sports, lifestyle, business and entertainment from October 22-29, 2017

Why Davenport is ambassador

Melissa Pine, Vice-President of WTA Asia-Pacific and Tournament Director of the WTA Finals said, “Lindsay has been a great advocate of women’s tennis. Throughout her career and beyond, she has helped the growth and development of the sport, most recently by coaching Madison Keys who qualified for the WTA Finals in 2016 for the first time. It is going to be such a treat for the fans to have Lindsay with us this year in Singapore for the first time, as she brings a wealth of experience both as a player and now as a coach.”
