Yo-yo, belly dancing, kendama and more at Singapore Street Festival 2017

The Singapore Street Festival (SSF) is back this year to celebrate and support youths who will be showcasing their various talents.

This year’s theme, Unchartered, represents unfamiliar terrain and freedom for experimentation, adding to the excitement of the festival.

Held from now to 9 July, the event will encompass activities such as the street art live painting and exhibition, the Singapore National Kendama Championship, Urban Street Football and Asian Global Bellydance.

Founded in 2002 by one of Singapore’s most prolific independent producers Annie Pek, the Singapore Street Festival is a yearly non-profit social and community event offering youths the opportunity to showcase their diverse skills and capabilities in the performing arts, visual arts, popular lifestyle trends fashion, urban sports, entrepreneurship, technology, health, environment and design.

Here are some of the events to check out:

D’J Party (Jrock Event) at Raffles City Outdoor (opposite Capitol Theatre)
Date: 17 & 18 June
Time: 3pm to 9pm
D’J Party has come a long way since its inception back in 2003. The group started out as Japanese Music enthusiast, during the era where visual kei bands dominated the Japanese rock scene. All they had wanted to do was to play the songs they loved and share that love and passion on a stage with like-minded people.

Check out the event’s page for more.

SYYC & APYYC (Yoyo Competition) 2017 at Bugis+ Atrium
Date: 30 June, 1 & 2 July
Time: 11am to 8pm
Yo-Yos may just be seen as a simple toy, but what these guys are going to show you will plainly amaze and astound. The Asia Pacific Yo-Yo Championships (AP) does not just showcase the best from each country, but many current and former World Champions are battling it out to be crowned the best in the Asia Pacific. This event will feature world famous players such as Hiroyuki Suzuki (4x World Champion), Marcus Koh (World Champion from Singapore), Shion Araya (Defending National / Asia Pacific / World Champion), Kazuya Murata (YOYOBABY), and many others.
