Want to be an Emirates pilot? Here’s what you need to know

Emirates airline will be holding pilot recruitment roadshows to hire new employees to fly its growing network of international routes.

If you have always dreamed of being a pilot, afraid to break it to you but simulator time will not be counted as part of your calculated flying hours.

Reason: The airline is only looking for experienced and technically proficient commercial pilots.

The roadshow offers interested pilots and their partners a great opportunity to learn more about the recruitment process, and talk to Emirates’ staff about the extensive training, career development pathways and progression plans Emirates’ pilots are entitled to.

Emirates now offers pilots the option to join the airline’s dedicated Boeing 777 freighter pilot team. The freighter pilot contract offers a unique opportunity for pilots with a new 28 days on, 13 days off roster pattern. Pilots attending the roadshow can also obtain more information on the new freighter pilot contract.

Minimum requirements for First Officers

To apply, you must have a valid ICAO ATPL (or USA equivalent). Applications will be accepted from pilots from multiengine, multicrew, turboprop and jet aircraft, including business jets, with a MTOW of 10 tonnes or more.

As a First Officer on Emirates Boeing 777 and A380 fleets, you must meet these minimum requirements:

  • 2000 hours flying an aircraft with a MTOW of 20 tonnes or more; OR
  • 3000 hours flying an aircraft with a MTOW above 10 tonnes.
  • ICAO English level 4 or above (or equivalent)

If you are currently type rated on B744, B777, B787 or A330/340/350/380, you may be entitled to an enhanced package. This is based on:

  • 5000 hours flying an aircraft with a MTOW of 50 tonnes or more; of which
  • 3000 hours are on B744, B777, B787 or A330/340/350/380 and;
  • 500 hours were flown in the last 12 months before joining Emirates
  • ICAO English level 5 or above (or equivalent)

Minimum requirements for Captains 

You must have a valid ICAO ATPL (Or USA equivalent) with an unrestricted Class 1 medical certificate.

As a direct entry Captain on Emirates Boeing 777 fleet you must meet these minimum requirements:

  • 7000 hours total flying time. Note: Total Flying Time is defined as all flying as P1 and/or P2, excluding rotary and single/multi-engine piston
  • 3000 hours command time on multi-crew, multi-engine commercial jet aircraft with a MTOW of 50 tonnes or more
  • Currently type-rated as a commander on an aircraft such as B737 (or larger)
  • Flown at least 150 hours in command in the 12 months before joining Emirates
  • ICAO English level 5 or above (or equivalent)
  • At least 1000 hours of wide body aircraft and long haul experience in the last 3 years

Details of the roadshow

Roadshow sessions will be held in Singapore at the Hilton Singapore (581 Orchard Rd, Singapore 238883) on May 26 (Friday) at 10am and 2pm and on May 27 (Saturday) at 10am.

Pilots need to attend only one of the three sessions and prior registration is not required to participate.
