Fukuichi Japanese Dining Launch at Hotel Chancellor

Do you know there is a row of hotels hidden behind Concorde Hotel along Orchard Road? One of these hotels is Hotel Chancellor and within this hotel is a new japanese restaurant, Fukuichi Japanese Dining.

Following the success of their first outlet in Triple One Somerset, Fukuichi recently opened a second outlet at Hotel Chancellor. Nestled in the heart of Orchard Road, the 90-seater restaurant boasts a sushi bar as well as a tatami room.

The restaurant is led by executive chef John Phua, who has more than 20 years of Japanese culinary experience. Prices are kept affordable, while not compromising on the quality. The freshest fish and seasonal seafood are imported from Fukuichi’s partner, Fukuchi GyoGyo in Shizuoka, Japan.

Fukuchi GyoGyo is a fishing operator that has been around for over 300 years. To keep the imported seafood from Shizuoka fresh, all the ingredients are kept frozen in a three-storey-high cold storage that runs at -55 degrees Celsius.

Fukuichi’s signature is their exquisite teishoku (meal set). Attractive lunch and dinner teishoku are available at affordable prices, including the Fukuichi Indulgence Teishoku, featuring eight small dishes in one set meal at the promotional price of S$30:

This is a really good deal I must say. The eight items are an appertiser; green salad; sashimi moriwase (assorted sashimi); sushi moriwase (assorted sushi); ura maki (California roll): sake mentaiyaki (salmon with cod roe sauce); tempura; and miso soup.

Other dishes I tried:

Kani Tofu – carb meat bean curd with century egg sauce (S$7)
Ebi Teppanyaki – teppanyaki prawns (S$25)
Gyuniku Fagura Sauce – Grilled beef with goose liver sauce (S$38)
Assorted japanese ice cream for dessert
XO Chawanmushi (S$14)

Among the dishes I tried, the Ebi Teppanyaki and the Kani Tofu were the stand-out dishes. The latter is a very simple dish, but taste surprisingly delightful.

The teishoku are good value for money and are definitely crowd-pleasers. Do check out their opening specials till the end of this month.
