You ain’t seen horse-riding until you’ve watched Cavalia

Cavalia, that live show featuring 50 horses (16 stallions and the rest are geldings, just in case you’re curious), has made its debut in Singapore last Monday. It will be showing until September and you HAVE to watch it.

I will let the pictures tell you why:

I love that Cavalia doesn’t treat its horses like circus performers. Each performance is a celebration of equestrian arts and the horses are not made to do stunts outside of their nature. Horses and humans cavort in front of the dreamlike backdrop with such spontaneity that surely attests to their irreproachable chemistry.

Most of the acrobatics are done by human performers. You’ll see people riding on bare-backed horses, leaping from horses, standing with two feet on the back of two horses galloping at full speed… You get the idea. To me, the horses are co-performers who are there to add visual interest. And they indeed kept the 2,000 member audience spellbound.

Asher and I left at the interval because the tot had school the next day, but my favourite performer on opening night was Lasso Girl. I’m sorry I don’t have her name! But she worked that lasso like firecracker.

If you want to see a show with horsemanship and showmanship, this is it.
