Are you ready to for X-Men: Days of Future Past?

X-Men: Days of Future Past is an American superhero film, based on the fictional X-Men characters appearing in Marvel Comics and on the 1981 Uncanny X-Men storyline “Days of Future Past” by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. Directed by Bryan Singer, it is the seventh film in the X-Men film series and the third X-Men film directed by Singer after 2000’s X-Men and 2003’s X2.

Days of Future Past was a very popular series in among X-Men fans. In 2001, fans voted the first issue of this storyline, the 25th greatest Marvel comic. Expectations are high… and the film delivered. Phew.

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from “X-Men: First Class”, in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.

Presenting X-Men characters from both future and past in alternate X-men universes, the film is a delight for long-time X-Men fans like me to spot and name each of the characters and see how their big screen adaptations fare.

Key characters in this film are Wolverine, Magneto, Professor X, Mystique and Boliver Trask.

Only one man can play Wolverine in this world – Hugh Jackman. He is as charismatic as ever on screen. Watch out for a full nude scene where fans get to adore his chiseled body which he specially trained and prepared, just for that one scene.

Jennifer Lawrence plays Mystique while Peter Dinklage plays Boliver Trask. Both acted well in their respectively roles.

The young Magneto and Professor X were forgettable, but the old-timers, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart were as good as ever.

Evan Peters, who played Quicksilver was a surprise discovery who charmed the audience, despite his limited screen time. I hope to see more of him as Quicksilver in future X-Men movies.

The storyline weaved the heavy theme of morality and accepting of differences with a complex time travel narration, yet was able to tell a compelling and attractive story. Unlike me, my wife Rachel did not read the original comic series, but she enjoyed the film just as much or if not, more.

Three of the cast, Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Peter Dinklage (Boliver Trask) and Fan Bingbing (Blink) were in Singapore yesterday for a blue carpet event at Shaw House in Orchard. I got the media pass and took some pictures to share:

This is the second time I get to meet Jackman for a movie premiere. Last year, I met him in Seoul for The Wolverine Asia premiere in South Korea. As professional as always, Jackman was the first to arrive at the event, on time, and spent the longest time signing autographs as well as taking selfies with the fans who have queued for hours to catch a glimpse of the X-men stars. Jackman is one of the biggest name in Hollywood now, but still as down-to-earth. Great guy. This is how you sell your movies!

Fan Bingbing has a lot of fans in Singapore, with most of them from China where she is one of the top stars there. Peter Dinklage also has a strong following who know him better as Tyrion Lannister in the hit TV series, Game of Thrones.
