Bakerzin @ MyVillage in Serangoon Garden

Previously known as Baker’s Inn, Bakerzin started out in 1998 as a modest patisserie located off Sembawang Road in Singapore, dealing with wholesale orders and supplying French bread and pastries to restaurants and hotels.

In 2000, Bakerzin opened their first boutique cafe, serving up their signature collection of sweet treats, desserts and savoury dishes, earning rave reviews from customers.

Since then, Bakerzin have steadily grew into a chain of nine outlets in Singapore and five outlets in Indonesia. Customers are also able to place orders online through their official website.

With their cafes in operation for 14 years, Bakerzin has been able to maintain their food quality and roll out new, exquisite items on their menu each year.

Check out these items from their 2014 menu which I tried at their outlet at MyVillage in Serangoon Garden:

Riviera (S$8.80) – Genoise almond sponge layered with cherry mousse, iranian pistachio custard, red chocoate, topped with pistachio and cherry macaron and served with fresh seasonal berries, mango and raspberry sauces
Strawberry Shortcake (S$8.80) – Bakerzin’s signature dessert made with Japanese flour for a moist, fluffy and airy cake. Layered with freshly-whipped cream and plume strawberries.
Chocolate Amer (S$8.50) – Flourless sponge cake featuring a chocolate mousse made with Bakerzin’s blend of decadent valrhona chocolate and served with vanilla ice-cream and chocolate pearls
Hazel-choco Delight (S$12.90) – Delicate coconut gianduja cream (chocolate-hazelnut cream) topped with sesame mousse, served with homemade chocolate ice-cream and caramelised hazelnuts
Plummy Mozzarella Salad (S$16.50) – Mesclun, cherry tomatoes, sauteed plums in balsamic vinegar, mint and pine nuts, tossed in house dressing.
Caesar Prawn Wrap (S$19.50) – Grilled tortilla wrap, prawns, crispy bacon, hard-boiled egg, baby romaine, mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumber and caesar dressing, served with mesclun in house dressing.

The food looks delicious don’t they? The Chocolate Amer was a delight for me. I usually do not like strawberry cakes as I often find them too sweet, but Bakerzin’s signature Strawberry Shortcake has a good balance of fruity flavour and subtle sweetness.

For the savoury dishes, the prawn wrap was a surprise, with a little crunch from the crispy bacon, yet filled with greens and other good stuff.

Diners usually experience a drop in food quality when a restaurants expand into a chain. For Bakerzin, they have done a good job keeping up the dining experience.
