I, Frankenstein is a 2014 Australian-American fantasy action film written and directed by Stuart Beattie, based on the graphic novel and original screenplay by Kevin Grevioux. It stars Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski, Miranda Otto, Socratis Otto, Jai Courtney and Kevin Grevioux.
It is not really a horror movie. Neither is it a remake of the original Frankenstein’s Monster story which we are all familiar with.
Instead, it is a modern twist on the legend of Frankenstein’s Monster, set in a battle of good versus evil in classic American graphic novel style:
It is not the usual kind of movie I would watch, but I was curious to see how the Frankenstein’s Monster story can be adapted into today’s context.
Generally, the storyline was pretty predictable and did not leave a deep impression on me.
The lead character is gloomy, bad-tempered and extremely hard to like as a hero. His weapon of choice is two short metal batons… not very inspiring or fanciful to look at during battles.
Hardcore comic fans should enjoy this though and they will be the ones feeding the box office. I, Frankenstein is now showing in Singapore cinemas and is available in 3D.
