Desmond Lim, 45, is a principal engineer at telco operator, M1. He contested Punggol East in GE2011 under the SDA banner. In that showdown with the People’s Action Party’s Michael Palmer and Worker’s Party Lee Li Lian, he managed to garner only 4.5 per cent of the vote and lost his $16,000 election deposit.
While I admire his grit and determination, I am shocked by his foolhardiness. The dude just had a son last year who is around the age of my son, Asher. The election deposit is a pretty large sum of money for most ordinary Singaporeans. He should just save the money for his son’s future or donate it to charity to generate more goodwill for his political career instead of “donating” it to the election department.
Then again, it’s his life, his money, his decision.
In other unrelated news, telco operator, M1’s 3G network was down yesterday, affecting many angry customers.
Maybe this is a sign to Desmond to focus more on his family and work at this point in time…
