Seki Japanese Restaurant, located at Rendezvous Hotel is a mid-priced japanese restaurant, specialising in fresh sushi and sashimi.
Most of their seafood served are brought in from Japan’s Hokkaido and Chiba region twice a week for freshness. Hence the pricing is considered pretty reasonable for quality.
I was invited for a tasting session sometime back. A special omakase menu was served for us to sample a range of their dishes:
Fugu mirin boshi refers to dried puffer fish. It tastes chewy like a thin strip of bak kwa (Chinese barbecue pork) and is served at Seki with a mayonnaise dip topped with Japanese chilli powder.
This cabbage salad is served with black pepper smoked duck and topped with thin strips of deep fried spring roll skin, sesame seed and homemade dressing.
I like the mix of crunch and softness in the salad ingredient.
At Seki, their sashimi is served with the freshest ingredients, imported directly from the Japanese mecca of seafood, Tsukiji Market, Tokyo, on every Tuesday and Thursday.
Lovely!
This is the main course – charcoal-grilled beef in black pepper and salt, served with a special mayonnaise mustard sauce for dipping.
The cheese is not overbearing in this dish and adds a nice nutty fragrance to the smooth egg custard. I quite like this.
The sushi served were really fresh and melts in the mouth. I could have eaten a hundred pieces of these.
Overall, Seki gives pretty good value-for-money. It is not exactly the cheapest japanese restaurant around, but for the quality of the seafood, it is pretty reasonable.
