I got to dine at Silk Road Restaurant (丝绸之路) at The Amara during the Chinese New Year period, thanks to my generous aunt and uncle who invited our family for a CNY dinner gathering.
The restaurant belongs to the Amara group and serves Chinese fares hailing from the provinces of Sichuan, Shaanxi, Liaoning and Beijing.
I am not a Chinese food connoisseur, but the dishes we had seemed to lean towards Sichuan flavours, generous with spices and oil. Mushrooms seem to appear in every dishes as well.
The Sichuan-style Yu Sheng, mixed with a spicy paste and an assortment of raw seafood seems promising, but turns out rather disappointing as the spicy sauce dilute the flavours of the other ingredients.
I am not a fan of strong, heavy flavours, hence most of the spicy dishes didn’t quite cut it for me. Nonetheless, the food was still good overall.
Oddly, what I particularly enjoyed was the dessert and the tea served, which are not really the focus of the meal.
