How I spent my last day of 2010

Hello 2011 and goodbye 2010!

How did you spend your last day of 2010? I spent mine working for most part of  the day as it was a normal work-day at my office.

By 6pm, I was at Clark Quay to meet Alfred from Asia Pacific Breweries to welcome a group of bloggers who were selected to experience the Tiger Crystal Ultimate New Year’s Eve Countdown. More information about this event is available on the omy Blog Club.

At around 8pm, I met my wife, Rachel, good friend, Kaili and her boyfriend, Dennis at Han’s at Marina Square for a quick dinner.I was the only one eating as the three of them had met earlier for ramen at Parco.

My last meal in 2010?

A beef burger with a burnt, rock-hard patty and some sorry excuse for salad. The food sucks. It was a sad meal to round up the year.

After dinner, the four of us headed to The Float @ Marina Bay to attend the countdown party. It was the reason we came together for the night. Rachel has gotten VIP invitation for the four of us, courtesy of the nice folks at the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).

When we arrived, we were ushered up the lift to the air-conditioned VIP lounge instead of sweating it out in the queues with the masses.

Drinks, including wines, and of course, Tiger Crystal was served at the lounge, with some light finger food. There was also a caricature artist drawing free portraits for guests.

The only minus point was that the seats allocated for VIP guests were quite far from the main stage. I am not complaining because I was there more for the fireworks than the performance line-up. The area was a good vantage point to view the spectacular fireworks.

The biggest star of the night was Taiwanese singer, David Tao (陶喆). He was quite the crowd-pleaser and decked out a few catchy R&B hits.

The rest of the night’s performance was filled by a rojak mix of Mediacorp stars”from singing competitions (whom I mostly do not know of as I do not watch much television) and B/C-list singers here and there.

I presume there’s too many countdown parties going on this year all over Singapore that our limited performing talents ended up being spread too thinly at each venue.

At the final ten seconds before the clock struck twelve, everybody got up on our feet to count down to 2011.

This was followed by a spectacular display of fireworks which danced to synchronised music this year:

We headed off quickly after the fireworks to avoid the after-party transport congestion. A local singing duo called Jack and Rai were the ones performing right after the fireworks. I kind of felt sorry for them as most of the crowd trickled out of the venue as they began singing.

That rounded up my 2010. 🙂
