90s Sparks Disco LIVE Recording

If you are born in the 80s and was a clubber during the 90s, you should know the notorious Sparks Disco located in Takashimaya.

I remember frequenting the place last time. They were a little lax on the age check and you will always see underage kids hanging around.

The place was loaded with bengs and lians. Fights were frequent and people chanted gang cries when certain familiar techno tracks are played.

Back then, clubbing was called “chiong-ing” – eg. “Tonight no go Sparks Chiong ah?”

The term sounds stupid and dated now. I hope you are not using it still.

Anyway, Xanthos from EDMW, uploaded a series of LIVE recording of techno tracks at Sparks Disco from the 90s, complete with the bengs and lians chanting in the background.

Check them out for a walk down memory lane. I cannot get that “Drive Me Crazy” song out of my head now:

While we are at it, below are a few more dance tracks I dig last time. The song titles and lyrics are really cheesy – “Super Hero Lover”;”Sea of Love”; and “Butterfly”:

  • Christine you are not so old right? You probably heard the butterfly song on the Para-Para arcade game? :) There was a point when the jukebox at the McDonald near my school actually took the Butterfly song off because it keep causing fights there whenever it was played.

  • Wah piang eh! This brought back such a rush of those old memories of bengism! Hmmm.... the other ones were of course the tea dances at Warehouse disco along Havelock Road, which is even more vintage. Yo ah yo ah! :)
