Singapore’s army boys and reservist men will now have a new look. Jointly developed with the Defence Science & Technology Agency (DSTA), the new SAF combat uniform is said to have an “enhanced camouflage pattern to reduce detection” and “better quality fabric and an ergonomic functional design”.
Check it out on the MINDEF website. Here’s what the new pixel camouflage uniform looks like:
I have no comments about the look as I will still hate serving my reservist regardless of what attire I have to don. Nonetheless, if this uniform lives up to it’s promise of being more comfortable and cooling to wear, I support it fully.
The only problem I think the new uniform will bring about is the shifting of the rank display for officers from the shoulder to the chest. From the look of it on the website, the rank looks rather indiscernible, mixed with the camouflage. There are a lot of assholes officers who are very particular about people not saluting or greeting them and I am wondering if this will result in more people getting extra duties because they can’t see the stupid ranks.
Any NS boys care to clarify if the concern above is valid? 🙂

It's easyer to see the rank on the chest than on the shoulders. At least for low people and high officers :)
