Barbershop Wonderland by Jeon Byeong Sam, presented by The Fullerton Heritage
Opening this Friday, 5 June 2026, i Light Singapore 2026 will once again illuminate Marina Bay and Raffles Place, transforming the precinct into a dynamic interactive playground of light, colour and sound. Organised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority and presented by UOB, the festival returns with 14 light art installations themed around Movement, inviting visitors to experience how art evolves through human interaction.
This year’s edition places strong emphasis on participation, with installations designed to respond to movement, sound and presence. The festival also highlights Asian artistic talent alongside international creators, offering fresh interpretations of how people, cities and cultures are constantly in motion.
At the heart of Marina Bay’s waterfront, Movement becomes both theme and experience. The festival explores how urban life is shaped by continuous flow, from people and ideas to soundscapes and energy, turning familiar public spaces into an immersive environment for discovery and reflection.
Among the standout installations, Barbershop Wonderland by Jeon Byeong Sam of South Korea at Clifford Square features 200 rotating multi-coloured barbershop poles that light up and move as visitors approach. Presented by The Fullerton Heritage, the work reimagines the barbershop as a place of transformation, blending nostalgia with a futuristic visual experience.
Behind the Breeze Shelters, RESONORA by OSTUDIO x Dearista from Indonesia captures real time urban sounds such as traffic and conversation and converts them into flowing light patterns projected across suspended fabric. The result is a living visualisation of the city’s soundscape, where everyday noise becomes art.
At the lawn beside the NTUC Centre, Sliced by Encor Studio from Switzerland offers a contrasting minimalist experience. Visitors walk through a darkened corridor lined with perforated fabric, where beams of light shift and scatter with each movement, creating an ever-changing interplay of shadow and illumination.
Over at Event Square, Between Mountains and Seas by Peppercorns from Taiwan presents a five-chapter audiovisual journey inspired by the movement of civilisations and landscapes. With sweeping light displays and immersive soundscapes drawn from natural elements, the installation encourages reflection on the planet’s long history and its fragile future.
Next to the Red Dot Design Museum, Celebration of Life by DP Design and Yeo Ker Siang from Singapore takes the form of a six-metre cube structure featuring mirrored surfaces, colour play and live visual projections of visitors’ facial expressions and gestures. Presented by Defence Collective Singapore, the installation reflects human diversity and shared identity through movement and interaction.
Beyond the installations, i Light Singapore 2026 also offers a range of public programmes designed to engage visitors of all ages. Local creative collective DPLMT will host two live graffiti showcases on 6 and 19 June at Infinite Graffiti at Marina Bay Link Mall entrance, bringing the theme of Movement to life through street art and live expression.
On 27 June, Submersion, a vinyasa yoga session held at The Promontory in collaboration with Wild Pearl Studio and Beam World, will combine physical movement with an electronic soundscape delivered through participants’ own devices, creating an intimate sensory experience in the heart of the city.
The Silent Disco Parade returns on 20 June, beginning at the ArtScience Museum and concluding at The Promontory. Participants will move through Marina Bay wearing headphones, dancing along to curated music while interacting with illuminated installations along the route.
Food, music and lifestyle experiences at GastroBeats also return with a refreshed line up. The Meatmen Channel will bring back popular dishes from last year, while newcomer rice. debuts with a festival exclusive menu centred on rice inspired Asian flavours. The stage programme continues to support local talent through the GastroBeats x Sony Music GIGs Mentorship Programme, alongside performances from 53A, SuperSonic and Jive Talking.
At the WAVE installation, Drum Prodigy, Singapore’s first inclusive drum school, will lead two Community Drum Circles titled Waves of Unity on 6 and 13 June. Supported by the festival and UOB, the sessions will bring together beneficiaries, volunteers and families to activate the installation through percussion, creating a shared rhythm experience that can be viewed by the public.
Sustainability remains a key pillar of the festival. The return of the Switch Off, Turn Up campaign encourages building owners and businesses to reduce energy usage by switching off non-essential lighting and optimising air conditioning. The festival also continues to prioritise energy efficient technologies and sustainable materials in the creation of its installations.
i Light Singapore 2026 runs from 5 to 28 June 2026, from 7.30pm to 10.30pm daily. Admission is free, with selected programmes requiring separate charges.
