The Down Syndrome Association (Singapore) (DSA) marked World Down Syndrome Day with one of its largest community celebrations to date, drawing a record-breaking crowd at Suntec City on 28 March. Families, schools, supporters and members of the public came together for a full-day programme that highlighted inclusion, talent and community spirit.
A major milestone of the event was the debut of the Inaugural DSA Awards 2026, a new national platform honouring the talents, achievements and contributions of individuals with Down syndrome. The Awards will spotlight excellence across the arts, education, employment, advocacy, sport and more, aiming to reshape public perceptions and showcase real stories of capability and impact.
The celebration also saw DSA secure a Singapore Book of Records title for the largest gathering of people wearing mismatched socks, an international symbol of Down syndrome awareness. Enthusiastic participation from attendees underscored the community’s shared message of solidarity and support.
Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Social and Family Development Mr Eric Chua attended as Guest of Honour, joining families, performers and participants throughout the day.
The event featured lively performances by DSA members, partner organisations and schools including Little Footprints Preschool @ Admiralty, Edgefield Secondary School, ISS International School, James Cook University and North Vista Secondary School. From dance and music to martial arts and percussion, the programme celebrated both the diversity and capability of the Down syndrome community.
These collaborations reflect the strong ecosystem of partners working alongside DSA to foster inclusion and create opportunities for meaningful participation.
This year’s World Down Syndrome Day theme, “Our DSA Heart – A Lifetime of Love,” highlights the ongoing journey of support, inclusion and shared impact. The Suntec City event embodied this message, bringing the community together, amplifying voices and recognising the achievements of individuals with Down syndrome.
