Pokémon Pokopia, the newest title from the Pokémon franchise, has made an impressive debut by selling more than 2 million copies worldwide within just four days of launch. The game was released globally on March 5, 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
According to data from Nintendo Co., Ltd., roughly half of the total sales came from markets outside Japan, with figures including both physical and digital versions of the game. Sales outside Japan were handled directly by Nintendo.
Developed through a collaboration between The Pokémon Company, Game Freak, and Koei Tecmo Games, Pokémon Pokopia introduces a new genre to the beloved franchise as its first cozy sandbox-style game.
Unlike traditional Pokémon adventures focused on battles and training, the game emphasizes creativity, exploration, and a relaxed pace. Players are tasked with reviving a once-desolate land, transforming it into a thriving paradise with the help of Pokémon companions.
In the game, players take on the unique role of a Ditto disguised as a human, allowing them to interact with the world while working toward building their own utopia. Gameplay revolves around gathering resources such as wood, stone, and berries to craft tools, build structures, and nurture friendships with Pokémon inhabiting the area.
Adding to the immersive experience, the game features a real-time clock system linked to the player’s actual time, allowing the in-game environment to change dynamically with shifting weather patterns and different Pokémon appearing throughout the day.
