Leica Camera AG Unveils First International Leica Leitzphone Powered by Xiaomi

Leica Camera AG has officially introduced its first international smartphone, the Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi, marking a major milestone in the brand’s continued evolution from precision optics pioneer to mobile imaging innovator.

For more than a century, Leica has championed meaningful image-making guided by precision, clarity and respect for the photographic moment. With the Leitzphone, the company extends that philosophy into everyday mobile photography, not as a replacement for traditional cameras, but as a natural complement to them.

Leica Design, Reduced to the Essential

Designed entirely by Leica, the Leitzphone follows the brand’s signature principle of reduction to the essential. A black fibreglass rear panel paired with a precisely knurled metal frame delivers a tactile, understated finish unmistakably Leica. The iconic red dot signals both authorship and responsibility for the overall design experience.

One standout feature is the mechanical camera ring, a defining hardware element that brings a physical, camera-like interaction to the smartphone. The customisable ring enables continuous control over zoom, exposure value, ISO and shutter speed. Users can also adjust focal length and switch between Leica Looks, encouraging a deliberate and intuitive photographic workflow.

Advanced Triple-Camera System

At its core, the Leitzphone houses a Leica-standard triple-camera system inspired by the Vario-APO-Summilux 14–100mm f/1.67–2.9 ASPH. lens. The setup is engineered for optical precision across focal lengths, particularly in high-contrast telephoto scenes such as cityscapes and portraits, where chromatic aberrations are carefully controlled.

The main camera features a 1-inch sensor with LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) technology, expanding dynamic range by storing excess charge directly at the pixel level. Meanwhile, the periscope telephoto camera incorporates a large 200-megapixel sensor within a compact optical structure inspired by classic zoom lens design. It supports optical zoom from 75 to 100mm, along with autofocus and optical image stabilisation.

Together, the system delivers tonal depth, natural colour reproduction and visual coherence, hallmarks of Leica imaging.

Leica-Crafted UI and Essential Mode

Leica also developed the Leitzphone’s system design and camera user interface, including the home screen, camera app and widgets. The camera integrates thirteen Leica Looks and five Leica bokeh simulations, reflecting a philosophy centred on clarity and image-first simplicity.

A dedicated Leica Essential Mode further reinforces this intent. It includes special profiles that digitally reinterpret classic Leica aesthetics, such as a Leica M9-inspired colour profile and a monochrome mode inspired by Leica Monopan film, bringing iconic tonal qualities into a modern mobile imaging pipeline.

Commitment to Image Authenticity

In line with Leica’s longstanding emphasis on photographic integrity, the Leitzphone supports the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI). A dedicated security chip embeds cryptographically secured metadata into original images, verifying origin and copyright in accordance with C2PA standards, and promoting greater transparency and trust in digital photography.

Pre-Order Benefits and Availability

The Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi will be available for pre-order from 1 to 6 March 2026 via Leica’s official website, Leica Stores and selected partners.

Pre-order customers will receive a complimentary Leica photography kit (worth S$199) and a S$100 Leica Store credit. The package also includes a two-year international warranty, six months of screen protection, a one-time replacement or exchange within the warranty period, and VIP Concierge support.

To deepen the experience, customers will also be invited to a complimentary Mobile Photography Workshop led by Leica Akademie instructors, offering hands-on guidance in mastering the device’s imaging capabilities.

Official sales will run from 7 to 22 March 2026. The Leica Leitzphone is priced at S$2,299 (inclusive of GST).

Introduction of the Xiaomi 17 Series

Alongside the Leitzphone announcement, Leica and Xiaomi also unveiled the new Xiaomi 17 series, comprising the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The models continue the co-engineered partnership established in 2022, advancing the shared vision of blending Leica optics and image tuning expertise with Xiaomi’s high-performance mobile platform.
