Singapore Crowned World Champion at Gelato World Cup 2026 in Italy

Singapore has claimed the top honour at the prestigious Gelato World Cup 2026, emerging as World Champion at the competition held during SIGEP WORLD: The World Expo for Foodservice Excellence in Rimini, Italy.

The four-day championship brought together 12 elite national teams from across the globe, four each from the Americas, Europe and Asia, to compete in 10 rigorous technical challenges. Participants were pushed to demonstrate excellence across a wide spectrum of disciplines, from classic creations such as gelato cakes, gelato sticks and plated single portions, to intricate artistic showcases including chocolate sculptures and large-scale installations. Each challenge tested not only flavour and craftsmanship, but also technical precision, creativity and visual storytelling at the highest level.

Widely regarded as the most prestigious international team competition dedicated to artisan gelato, the Gelato World Cup is organised by Gelato e Cultura and the Italian Exhibition Group (IEG). The event celebrates innovation, cultural exchange and mastery in the art of gelato-making on a global stage.

A Winning Concept: “Circus”

Team Singapore secured the world title with a compelling and cohesive theme titled Circus. Inspired by balance, precision and wonder, the concept impressed judges with its strong narrative, technical finesse and seamless execution across all competition segments.

The team was led by Jason Tan (Team Manager) and comprised Dexter Lee (Pastry Chef), Loh Cheng Kit (Pastry Chef), and Chew Wei Lung (Chef). Throughout the competition, the quartet demonstrated remarkable mastery of ingredients, refined artistry and the ability to translate a unified creative vision into a complete gastronomic and visual experience.

Singapore’s victory marks a significant milestone for the nation’s foodservice and artisan dessert industry, underscoring its growing reputation as a global leader in culinary excellence.

Singapore to Host Asia Selections for 2028

Following this historic win, Singapore is set to play a pivotal role in the lead-up to the next edition of the competition. From 15 to 17 July 2026, SIGEP Asia & Restaurant Asia will host the Gelato World Cup Asia Selections at Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre.

The regional qualifiers will gather Asia’s top gelato professionals as they compete for a coveted spot in the 2028 World Finals. More than just a qualifying round, the Asia Selections are expected to serve as a dynamic platform for talent, creativity and collaboration within the industry.
