As households across Singapore gear up for spring cleaning ahead of Lunar New Year, GoodHood.SG is giving the annual ritual a meaningful new purpose. The volunteer-run community movement, known for championing the kampung spirit of neighbourliness, has unveiled its inaugural Neighbours’ Day, a heartland festival that transforms decluttering into a neighbourhood-wide act of kindness and connection.
Taking place on Saturday, 24 January 2026, at Bishan Community Centre, Neighbours’ Day is organised in collaboration with the Bishan East–Sin Ming Grassroots Organisation. The event will also be joined by Advisers to the Bishan-Toa Payoh Grassroots Organisations, Mr Chee Hong Tat, Minister for National Development, and Ms Elysa Chen, underscoring the collective effort to strengthen social cohesion at the community level.
At the heart of Neighbours’ Day is the idea that simple, everyday actions, like clearing out unused items at home, can have a powerful social impact. More than 200 vulnerable families, identified by Bishan Community Centre and/or Blue or Orange CHAS card-holders, will receive priority access to essential pre-loved items, ensuring that festive preparations also translate into meaningful support for those in need.
Putting a fresh spin on the traditional flea market, Neighbours’ Day features a “Free Flea Market”, where no money changes hands. Residents are invited to donate pre-loved items in good condition, which are then made freely available to the community. The initiative builds on GoodHood.SG’s previous Giving Day efforts and reflects its mission to connect neighbours through giving and receiving.
With more than 120,000 registered members on its digital platform, GoodHood.SG has successfully cultivated a virtual kampung. Neighbours’ Day brings this digital community offline, serving as a physical pop-up where residents can meet, connect and discover what their neighbourhood has to offer.
Beyond the free flea market, visitors can explore the Kampung Corner, featuring:
