New Video Unveils First Look at Pokémon Pokopia for Nintendo Switch 2

The Pokémon Company has released a new extended video for Pokémon Pokopia, an upcoming relaxing town-building title for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The newly released footage, now available on the official Pokémon YouTube channel, offers the most detailed look yet at the world of Pokémon Pokopia, featuring its storyline, gameplay systems and a cast of unusual Pokémon variants.

A Town Reborn from Scratch

Pokémon Pokopia begins in a once-thriving town now left abandoned, overgrown, and devoid of human residents. A lone, peculiar Tangrowth has been living there in isolation—until a Ditto awakens from a long slumber, transforms into a human, and encounters it.

Ditto decides to help rebuild the town by crafting items, learning moves from various Pokémon, and working together to restore its natural environment. Players will slowly develop the town into a vibrant community that humans and Pokémon can enjoy once again.

Life in Pokopia: Building, Crafting and Bonding

Players create habitats to attract Pokémon, learn new moves, and craft items and furniture to improve living spaces. Pokémon residents can assist with activities such as construction, exploring the surrounding areas, and completing tasks that help the town grow.

Pokémon may request improvements or present challenges tied to larger issues within the town. Completing these requests will gradually transform the settlement and unlock new possibilities.

Beyond town-building, players can customise their appearance, change hairstyles and outfits, visit friends’ towns, and take photos together, allowing fully personalised playstyles.

Introducing Peculiar Pokémon Variants

The video also reveals unique Pokémon forms that appear only in Pokémon Pokopia:

  • Professor Tangrowth — A white-accented Tangrowth carrying what appear to be human tools. It teaches Ditto the basics of town life and is widely referred to as Professor Tangrowth.
  • Peakychu — A pale Pikachu with drooping ears and unusually coloured fur.
  • Mosslax — A Snorlax covered in moss, complete with a blooming flower atop its head.
  • Smearguru — A Smeargle splattered with vibrant colours; its tail moves like a painter’s brush.

These Pokémon contribute to the town’s character and play special roles in its development.

The Pokémon Pokopia is scheduled for release on 5 March, 2026. It will support 1 to 4 players locally or online, comes in physical and digital versions, and offers full localisation in Japanese, English, European Spanish, French, German, Italian, Simplified/Traditional Chinese and Korean.
