The Singapore Fringe Festival is making a bold comeback from 15 to 25 January 2026. And this time, it returns as a fully crowdfunded, independent festival. Now in its 22nd edition, Fringe 2026 will spotlight the theme “Represent”, inspiring audiences to rethink the power of representation both onstage and across the arts landscape.
This year’s vibrant line-up brings together Singapore and international artists whose works explore identity, inclusivity, and the voices we choose to amplify.
Representation takes centre stage across diverse perspectives and communities with a powerful curation of theatre works:
A Lesbian Love Story: The Musical
Goodbye tragic queer endings, hello joy! Created by queer, female-led theatre company Woody Avenue (Australia, Singapore & UK), this heartwarming musical follows Charlie’s quest to write the happiest lesbian love story ever told. With original music by Henry Allen and starring Coco Wang Ling, Melissa May Garcia, Mitchell Fang, and Natalie Yeap, expect a witty, emotional, and uplifting experience.
Invisible
Presented by ART:DIS and The Necessary Stage (Singapore), this new work sheds light on disabilities, both visible and hidden, and the empathy needed to understand them. Written by award-winning playwright Haresh Sharma and co-directed with Grace Kalaiselvi, the show features Dalifah Shahril, Deonn Yang, Jaspreet Kaur Sekhon, and Periyachi Roshini.
Retina Manoeuvre
Taiwanese theatre-maker Wang Ping-Hsiang (k*hole karaoke – Taiwan & Germany) offers a bold, provocative commentary on war, nationalism, and identity through the eyes of a queer middle-class military reservist.
Celup
Singapore’s Sofie Buligis confronts racial identity, stereotypes, and the discomfort of not feeling “Malay enough”. A sharp, personal reflection on belonging and cultural expectations.
Two timely conversations will delve into representation and the future of fringe art:
Is This Too Loud? Representation in Theatre
Featuring Rosie McGowan, Sindhura Kalidas, Sofie Buligis, and Wang Ping-Hsiang, moderated by Kathy Rowland. A must-attend dialogue on the complexities and responsibilities of representation.
No Space for Art: Is the Fringe Dead?
With panellists Anais Adjani, Kok Heng Leun, Melissa Lim, and Noorlinah Mohamed, moderated by Charlene Rajendran. As independent arts spaces dwindle, this panel asks the pressing questions: Can the Fringe survive a commercial-driven climate? What new models can sustain artistic experimentation?
Admission to both panels is free with registration.
