TikTok Rolls Out New Trust and Safety Features for Families, Creators, and the Community

TikTok has unveiled a robust suite of trust and safety features aimed at supporting families, empowering creators, and promoting digital well-being across its global community. These updates reflect the platform’s ongoing commitment to creating a secure, creative, and joyful environment for all users.

Enhanced Tools for Families and Teens

TikTok is expanding its Family Pairing features, allowing parents to stay more informed about their teen’s activities while preserving the teen’s independence and creativity. New capabilities include:

  • Upload Notifications: Parents will now receive automatic alerts when their teen shares a public post—whether a video, story, or photo.
  • Privacy Insights: Parents can view selected privacy settings, such as whether their teen’s content is downloadable or if their following list is public.
  • Topic Preferences: Parents will also see which content themes their teen has selected to personalize their feed via the Manage Topics feature.

These tools complement TikTok’s more than 50 teen-specific settings and its broader Digital Safety Partnership for Families, designed to encourage open conversations about online behavior and digital habits.

Introducing Well-being Missions

To promote healthier screen time, TikTok is debuting Well-being Missions—a gamified series of short activities designed to help users form more balanced digital routines. By completing these missions, users earn badges that reinforce mindful, long-term habits.

These initiatives were developed with guidance from TikTok’s Global Youth Council and wellness experts, including the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital.

New Protections and Tools for Creators

Creators are at the heart of TikTok’s ecosystem, and new features now offer them greater control, protection, and connection:

  • Creator Care Mode: Filters out offensive or unwanted comments.
  • LIVE Mute Tools: Enables creators to bulk mute specific words, emojis, and phrases during live streams.
  • Content Check Lite: Lets creators preview whether their content may be excluded from the For You feed.
  • Creator Inbox: A streamlined hub to manage messages professionally.
  • Creator Chat Room: A space for creators to interact directly with eligible followers in real time.

Maintaining Platform Integrity with Footnotes

To enhance context and accuracy across its platform, TikTok is expanding the pilot of Footnotes, a community-sourced feature that allows users to add and rate helpful contextual information on videos. U.S. users in the pilot can now contribute footnotes and vote on their usefulness, enhancing trust and transparency.
