Singapore Art Museum (SAM) is breathing new life into The Learning Gallery with a vibrant all-Singaporean artist lineup in celebration of SG60. Opening on 2 August 2025 at SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, this refreshed cycle features eight thought-provoking artworks centered around the theme of Childhood, exploring identity, home, memory, and the world through childlike wonder and curiosity.
Among the highlights is the rare reappearance of David Chan’s Animal Roulette, shown to the public for the first time in years. New commissions by Chen Sai Hua Kuan and Ezzam Rahman also take center stage, alongside beloved works by artists like Nguan and Cultural Medallion recipient Han Sai Por. Visitors can expect engaging installations, from a playful piece made of bungee cords to intricate flowers crafted from human skin, offering fresh perspectives through unexpected mediums.
To mark the opening and Singapore’s 60th birthday, SAM is throwing a free Art Carnival on Saturday, 2 August. Expect family-friendly activities including guided tours, a DIY paper camera workshop, and a quirky sticker-based “cai fan” plate assembly by Pointy Rice. The National Institute of Early Childhood Development (Temasek Polytechnic) Campus will also host engaging interactive experiences for young visitors.
The Learning Gallery has long championed contemporary art education, and this latest edition reinforces SAM’s mission to make art accessible, engaging, and socially meaningful. Open to all with free admission, the exhibition runs from 2 August 2025 to 28 June 2026.
