Sing’theatre Academy’s Showstoppers Return with Hilarious Hit Musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

After the smash success of GREASE, Sing’theatre Academy’s premier adult musical theatre troupe, The Showstoppers, is back this June with the beloved Broadway comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Expect a riot of laughter, catchy songs, and heartfelt moments as a cast of eccentric characters battle it out onstage in a spelling showdown like no other.

Running from 14–15 June 2025 at Goodman Arts Centre Black Box, this witty and warm production is led by the powerhouse team of Dr Caleb Goh as director and Joanne Ho as musical director. With Dr Goh’s New York theatre credentials and Ho’s acclaimed work on shows like Dear Evan Hansen and Into the Woods, the result promises to be a polished, musically rich, and delightfully unpredictable experience.

Set in a middle school gym, Spelling Bee follows a quirky group of contestants (played by adult performers) as they tackle tricky words and even trickier emotions. With spontaneous audience participation and laugh-out-loud humour, the show dives into themes of growing up, self-acceptance, and the joy of being delightfully different.

Now in its eighth year, The Showstoppers continues to shine as Sing’theatre Academy’s flagship programme for adult performers — combining professional-grade training with the thrill of live performance. Many alumni have gone on to pursue professional careers in the arts, making this a dynamic launchpad for aspiring talent.
