To mark Singapore’s 60th birthday, Yakiniku-GO has fired up an unexpected and delicious collaboration with one-Michelin-starred Chef LG Han of Labyrinth, bridging the smoky allure of Japanese yakiniku with the comfort of Singapore hawker flavours.
Available for a limited time from 13 May to 10 August 2025, this partnership offers a selection of local-inspired yakiniku sets that pay homage to dishes close to every Singaporean’s heart.
We attended a tasting dinner ahead of the launch, and honestly, it’s impressive how Chef Han and Yakiniku-GO have managed to elevate everyday classics like satay and Hainanese curry without losing their soul. Singaporeans are notoriously protective of our hawker staples, and reinterpreting them is a risky endeavour, but these renditions work. They taste different, but in a good way.
Our favourite of the night was the Satay Kushi set. The beef version we sampled was heavenly.
Each portion comes with two skewers of tender, satay-marinated meat (chicken, beef or pork), perfectly primed for DIY grilling.
Accompanying sides include acar (pickled vegetable), a nutty sesame satay sauce for dipping plus a fun modern swap, a sambal onigiri in place of ketupat, and a warming bowl of soto or rawon soup to complete the meal.
We enjoyed the tenderness of the meat, shaved thin and skewered together in multiple layers for a delicate chew, presenting a more refined palate.
The grilling brings out a smoky sweetness from the marinate that pairs well with the slightly spicy sambal onigiri.
The Hainanese Pork Curry Set ($15.90) offers a different kind of comfort and will appeal to carbs lovers.
It’s not as punchy as the satay, but it’s rich and satisfying in its own right.
The curry is sweet potato-based, thick, and fragrant. It is more subtle than the fiery hawker renditions we are familiar with, but delicious when ladled over beef tongue rice and topped with a silky onsen egg.
It’s an elegant riff on a heritage dish, and one we would happily order again.
At just $2.90 for two pieces, the Sambal Onigiri is a snack you will want to order on the side or take home. Stuffed with crispy silverfish, toasted coconut, and nasi lemak sambal, it pairs well with the Satay Kushi sets. It tastes even better if you were to grill it lightly to warm it up.
Verdict?
This collab is a quiet but confident triumph. Rather than overhauling beloved dishes, Chef LG Han and Yakiniku-GO have given them a new stage, presenting something uniquely Singapore that is also respectful, yet inventive.
With the added joy of smoke-free tabletop grilling and the accessibility of multiple outlets islandwide, this SG60 menu is well worth checking out before it disappears on 10 August.
This special SG60 menu items are available at all Yakiniku-GO and Yakiniku-GO Plus outlets across Singapore for a limited time only from 13 May to 10 August 2025. Visit Yakiniku-GO’s official website for more details.
