Cathay Pacific Celebrates New Direct Flights Between Hong Kong and Urumqi

Cathay Pacific is set to strengthen its presence in the Chinese Mainland with the launch of its new non-stop passenger service between Hong Kong and Urumqi. The airline marked the milestone with an elegant cocktail reception at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong on 25 April 2025. Hosted by Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam, the celebration welcomed esteemed guests, including Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the Hong Kong SAR Government, along with key industry partners.

Taking off on Monday, 28 April 2025, the Hong Kong-Urumqi route will operate four times a week, connecting travelers to a major Belt and Road hub in Northwestern China. This addition brings Cathay Group’s network in the Chinese Mainland to 20 destinations, reinforcing Hong Kong’s pivotal role as an international aviation gateway.

Guests were treated to a Xinjiang-style dance performance during the reception to celebrate the upcoming route launch.

Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the Hong Kong SAR Government Mable Chan remarked that she hopes Cathay will help elevate the entire air cargo industry.
Cathay Group CEO Ronald Lam said the Group will fly to 22 passenger destinations in the Chinese Mainland providing more than 300 return flights per week during the summer peak.

The flights will be operated by Cathay Pacific’s Airbus A330-300 aircraft, offering travelers a comfortable experience across Business and Economy cabins.

Cathay Group’s network continues to grow rapidly, with 15 new destinations announced for 2025 alone. Highlights include Hyderabad, Dallas, Rome, Munich, and Brussels for Cathay Pacific, as well as Sendai, Nha Trang, and Miyako (Shimojishima) for HK Express. With over 100 destinations worldwide set to be served by mid-2025, the Group promises customers greater connectivity and a seamless travel experience across the globe.
