Get ready to Rock Your Socks this World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) on 21 March 2025. For the sixth year running, Singapore is embracing bold, mismatched socks to champion inclusion and raise awareness for individuals with Down syndrome.
The extra 21st chromosome that causes Down syndrome resembles the shape of a sock under a microscope. Wearing mismatched socks is a fun and meaningful way to spark conversations, foster understanding, and show support for the community.
This year’s WDSD celebrations coincide with the launch of the Joyful Living Programme on 17 March 2025—a new initiative dedicated to enhancing the well-being of adults with Down syndrome aged 35 and above. As many individuals with Down syndrome experience early-onset aging conditions, including Alzheimer’s Disease, this programme offers specialized activities to support their physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being.
The celebrations began on 15 March 2025 with a community walk and carnival at One Punggol, bringing together beneficiaries, families, and supporters. Guest-of-honor Mr. Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Social and Family Development, reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to inclusion, highlighting the progress made in fostering a more inclusive society.
Walk alongside beneficiaries and supporters in a show of solidarity.
