Punggol Digital District: Singapore’s Smart City Hub for Innovation and Sustainability

Punggol is set to become Singapore’s premier smart and sustainable district with the launch of Punggol Digital District (PDD)—a cutting-edge hub for technology, industry, and community living. Developed by JTC, this 50-hectare district will house leading players in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, robotics, fintech, and smart living, creating a dynamic ecosystem for digital innovation.

A Future-Ready Business and Education Hub

PDD is designed to seamlessly integrate businesses and academia, with 65% of its business park spaces already pre-committed. Tenants include AiSP, CSA, GovTech, OCBC Bank, and UOB, among others. The district will also be home to the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), fostering real-world collaboration between students and industry leaders. With 12,000 students and 500 academic staff, SIT’s co-location within PDD provides an applied learning environment for the next generation of digital talent.

Open Digital Platform: The Smart Backbone of PDD

At the heart of PDD’s innovation is the Open Digital Platform (ODP)—Singapore’s first business park-wide digital infrastructure. By leveraging AI and real-time data analytics, ODP will optimize energy use, predict maintenance needs, and support businesses in developing and testing smart city solutions. A digital twin of the district will enable businesses and students to conduct simulations and prototyping in a risk-free environment.

A Model for Green and Sustainable Urban Living

PDD isn’t just a tech hub—it’s also Singapore’s largest Green Mark Platinum mixed-use district. Key sustainability features include:

• 35% reduction in carbon emissions—equivalent to removing 4,000 cars from the roads annually
• 17 Green Mark Platinum buildings, including three Super-Low Energy buildings
• Solar panels generating 3,000 megawatt-hours of clean energy annually
• Singapore’s first urban district-level smart grid
• Car-lite design with underground roads and 96 EV charging lots (expandable to 151)
• 1.3 km Punggol Heritage Trail with green spaces and conserved fruit trees

The district also features rain gardens and bioswales to capture and reuse rainwater, saving enough water to fill 83 Olympic-sized swimming pools annually.

A Vibrant Community with Retail, Dining, and Leisure

Beyond its tech and sustainability credentials, PDD is set to become a lifestyle and leisure hotspot:

• Punggol Coast Mall (opening March 2025) – A massive 290,600 sq ft mall with 120+ stores, including McDonald’s, Starbucks, MUJI Café & Meal, and Paradise Hotpot.
• Market Village (opening late 2025) – A waterfront dining and retail destination.
• Community amenities – A 680-seat hawker centre, three childcare centres for 1,000 children, and a new community club.

With 28,000 jobs expected to be created, PDD will bring work, life, and play closer to home for more than 160,000 residents in Punggol and the northeast region.
