Plant Prosperity This Lunar New Year with Flo’s Plantable Red Packets

This is the most interesting angpow we received this year for the upcoming Lunar New Year – plantable red packets from Flo Energy:

Flo Energy has introduced a sustainable twist to the traditional red packet with plantable red packets that can sprout into vegetables, blending festive customs with environmental consciousness.

Adorned with mandarin orange designs symbolising fortune and leaves to signify their plantable nature, the red packets are crafted from biodegradable, recycled paper mixed with vegetable seeds.

They feature three classic Lunar New Year greetings: “Happy New Year / 新年快乐,” “Great luck, great profit / 大吉大利,” and “Wishing you prosperity and wealth / 恭喜发财.” Planting instructions are conveniently accessible via a QR code printed on the back.

According to Hong Kong environmental group Greeners Action, over 320 million red packets are distributed annually, equating to the loss of approximately 16,300 trees.

“At Flo, we reduce our paper usage as much as possible, so we wanted to find a way to honor the tradition of Lunar New Year while staying true to our mission.
