Funan Presents “Creative Intersections: Snakes and Ladders” as Part of Singapore Art Week 2025

Funan launches its fifth iteration of the signature Creative Intersections campaign with the theme Snakes and Ladders, a multifaceted experiential exhibition held from 17 January to 16 February 2025. This initiative coincides with Singapore Art Week 2025 and leads into Lunar New Year celebrations, offering an engaging blend of art, culture, and retail.

The exhibition features 23 unique exhibits, showcasing collaborations between 15 Singaporean artists and 13 brands, curated by Justin Loke, Creative Director of the acclaimed art collective Vertical Submarine. Created in 2021, Creative Intersections transforms Funan into a vibrant canvas for artistic expression, integrating public art into a retail environment.

Exhibition Highlights

Interactive Puzzle: Puzzled by the Stairs

  • Location: Level 1 Grand Stairs
  • Concept: An interactive Snakes and Ladders-inspired puzzle based on a whimsical poem, inviting participants of all ages to solve missing letters.
  • Prizes: Weekly winners (first 25 correct guesses) receive $10 eCapitaVouchers via the CapitaStar app.
  • Creators: Vertical Submarine (interactive puzzle) and Wendy Mack (key visual).

Passion Snakes

Six snake installations representing Funan’s key passions—Chic, Craft, Fit, Play, Taste, and Tech—are displayed throughout the mall:

  • Locations:
    • B2: Entrance to the Underground Pedestrian Link and Exhibition Stretch
    • L1: In front of the Kinetic Wall

Kinetic Wall Animation: Dance Like a Boa, Swing Like a Bae

  • Location: Kinetic Wall at the Coleman Street and North Bridge Road intersection
  • Schedule: 10 am to 10 pm, every 10 minutes
  • Duration: 1 minute
  • Details: A seven-story digital art installation, inspired by the cultural significance of snakes in entertainment and technology. Created by indie studio Umami Labo.

Fortune Snake Art Installations

  • Locations:
    • Level 1 Entrance (North Bridge Road): A 15-meter-long snake crafted from fortune red packets by illustrator Tang Yiqi.
    • Level 1 Atrium: Snake installation featuring the auspicious number “8,” serving as a festive photo backdrop.
  • Dates: 8 January to 26 January 2025

Light to Night 2025: Return to Paradise (Play)

  • Location: B2 Underground Pedestrian Link
  • Dates: 17 January to 28 February 2025
  • Details: Artist Beverley Ng explores Singapore’s evolving identity through vivid, memory-evoking illustrations.

Collaborative Brand Partnerships

For the tenant-level exhibits, eight new brands join the initiative, including Audio Technica, Dal.komm COFFEE, Dreame, The Pace and The Green Collective. Visitors can experience co-created art pieces within participating stores.
