This festive season, Chilli Api Catering introduces Crimson Traditions, a Peranakan-inspired Christmas menu designed to add warmth and joy to your celebrations. This one was the one we got to try, and at a very wallet-friendly price of $298, it featured dishes such as:
Nonya Spices Rotisserie Chicken: A perfectly roasted chicken infused with aromatic Peranakan spices. While you may expect a buffet chicken to be dry, this chicken was surprisingly tender and juicy, with an extra spicy kick from the seasoning and the sauce.
Peranakan Dry Laksa (which could be swapped out for the Tomato Pilaf Rice): A rich and flavorful take on the classic laksa, crafted with traditional recipes. The flavour from the soup has been infused into the chewy rice noodles, not depriving you of that delicious burst of coconut and seafood flavours in a laksa broth.
This is one of Chilli Api’s signature dish and in our view, a must-order item as a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
D.I.Y Kueh Pai Ti: With the typical radish, egg, peanut, sweet sauce and chili sauce, this self-built Kueh Pai Ti is crunchy with a nice sweet and spicy taste.
It adds to the fun of communal dining by allowing diners to customise your own dish.
Assam Pedas Spicy Seafood Tamarind Stew: Large, juicy prawns and mussels in a stew with okra that just soaks up the sauce, this dish is full of seafood kick. Perfect for seafood lovers.
Lemongrass Barramundi Satay: Fish satay paired with a fruity and refreshing cucumber salsa. Not one of our favourites, but still convenient and easy to eat. The salsa packs a zesty punch.
Baked Eggplant with Buah Keluak: Slightly spicy buttery eggplant with Buah Keluak. A rare Peranakan treat.
Blue Pea Kueh Salat (8 inches): It brought a sweet finish to an overall delicious meal, the Kueh Salat was popular with everyone who ate it, combing sweet and savoury notes in a traditional dessert offering.
