SG Cares Giving Week 2024 Inspires Giving Every Day and Everywhere

The annual SG Cares Giving Week (SCGW) is back for its fifth edition, running from 1-7 December 2024. Organized by the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) in collaboration with the SG Cares Office and the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), this initiative invites Singaporeans to give their time, talent, and resources to meaningful causes during the season of giving.

A Community United in Giving

Under the theme “Everyone Can Give”, SCGW 2024 emphasizes the idea that everyone—regardless of age or background—has the power to make a difference. This year’s event is the pinnacle of the Great Singapore Give, which runs until 25 February 2025, and aligns with the SG60 theme of “Building Our Singapore Together.”

With nearly 50 partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, the week offers diverse opportunities to give back, ranging from online initiatives to in-person events.

Highlights from SCGW 2024

  • Action for Singapore Dogs: The “Happy Howlidays” campaign spreads festive cheer to shelter dogs with special outings and treats, while advocating for responsible pet ownership and giving these animals a second chance at finding homes.
  • Hello Little Chompers: Their “Waves of Change” campaign combines eco-conscious retail and charitable giving, donating $1 to WWF for every packaging piece saved.
  • UOB Charity Pop-Up: Held on 4-5 December at UOB Plaza Atrium, this Christmas bazaar raises funds for Community Chest through sales by charities like Extra.Ordinary People and The Art Faculty. UOB volunteers and vocalists from Extra.Ordinary People will perform carols twice daily to spread holiday joy.
  • Sing’theatre Singathon: Aims to raise $60,000 to bring live music to public hospitals, enriching the lives of patients, families, and caregivers through performances.

New Volunteering Learning Journeys

For the first time, SCGW introduces Volunteering Learning Journeys, offering hands-on trial experiences with charities. These journeys eliminate traditional commitment requirements, allowing participants to explore volunteerism in a relaxed and engaging way.

Four organizations will host six learning journeys during the week, offering a unique opportunity for individuals to take their first steps or deepen their commitment to giving back.

Interested participants can sign up here.
