CHANEL Supports “Spirit World” by Singaporean Director Eric Khoo

The House of CHANEL proudly supports Spirit World, the latest feature film by acclaimed Singaporean director Eric Khoo. This imaginative film, shot in Japan and produced by Matilde Incerti, explores Japanese ghost mythology through the fictional story of musician Claire Emery, portrayed by legendary actress Catherine Deneuve. After traveling to Tokyo for a farewell concert, Claire unexpectedly transitions into the spirit world as a ghost, or ‘yokai.’ Guided by her devoted admirer Yuzo, played by Yutaka Takenouchi, Claire embarks on a journey through the afterlife, blending themes of reconciliation and the enduring bonds with loved ones beyond death.

CHANEL’s involvement extended beyond financial backing, with the luxury house supporting costume designer Pascaline Chavanne and lending exquisite jewelry, outfits, and accessories for the film’s stars, including Catherine Deneuve and Maiya Goshima. Deneuve’s long-standing relationship with CHANEL is deeply rooted, having famously represented the iconic N°5 fragrance and worn CHANEL creations in films such as Marcello Mio, which competed at Cannes in 2024.

Spirit World premiered on October 11, 2024, at the Busan International Film Festival, where CHANEL was an official partner. This support continues CHANEL’s commitment to fostering artistic vision, elevating voices like Eric Khoo, whose work has revitalized Singaporean cinema on the global stage. With a storied career that includes Mee Pok Man, 12 Storeys, and Tatsumi, Khoo is a celebrated figure in international film, having been honored with retrospectives and prestigious festival selections, including Cannes.
