Dementia Singapore launched the Mandarin version of DementiaHub.sg during its “Our Getai in Ang Mo Kio” event. Held at the Central Stage at Ang Mo Kio Town Centre, over 300 residents gathered to enjoy familiar Chinese tunes and lively banter as part of the fourth instalment of the Back to the Heartlands outreach initiative.
The event, designed to support persons living with dementia and their caregivers, also marked a significant milestone with the official announcement of DementiaHub.sg in Mandarin. This one-stop platform, co-developed by Dementia Singapore and the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), provides comprehensive resources, information, and event listings tailored to the dementia community in Singapore.
Since its launch in September 2021, DementiaHub.sg has become a crucial resource, attracting over 6,000 monthly users. It offers a range of articles, videos, and printable materials for individuals living with dementia, family caregivers, and care professionals, as well as those interested in building a dementia-inclusive society.
With around 38% of Dementia Singapore’s CARA membership sign-ups preferring Mandarin as their primary language, the new Mandarin site addresses a vital need for accessible dementia education. To further support users, the platform includes an audio reading feature, allowing users to listen to articles via Mandarin text-to-speech. Additionally, the site offers customization options such as adjustable font sizes, types, and contrast to enhance accessibility for users with visual challenges.
The two-hour Getai event featured engaging performances, skits, and games, hosted by entertainers Hao Hao and Anna Lim, who also shared valuable information on dementia care and the CARA membership program, which recently surpassed 10,000 members. The event was live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.
Dementia Singapore’s Back to the Heartlands initiative will continue in 2025, with upcoming Getai events planned in Geylang and MacPherson, bringing more community-focused outreach to the residents of Singapore.
