The 365 Cancer Prevention Society (365CPS) is bringing back its Stay CLEAR of Gastric Cancer campaign for the third year, offering free gastric cancer screenings from 1 October to 30 November 2024. This initiative encourages individuals at risk to prioritize early detection, a crucial factor in improving treatment outcomes.
Singapore residents aged 40 and above who hold a valid blue or orange CHAS card can register for the free screening by 30 November 2024 through the 365CPS website.
Gastric cancer, or stomach cancer, develops when cells in the stomach’s inner lining grow uncontrollably, potentially spreading to other organs like the liver and lungs. Early detection is key to improving survival rates, as stage one gastric cancer has a 90% survival rate, while stage four sees a drop to less than 20%.
According to the Singapore Cancer Registry’s 2022 report, around 600 cases of gastric cancer are diagnosed annually in Singapore, with men more likely to be affected than women. While early stages of gastric cancer often show no symptoms, signs like upper abdominal discomfort, indigestion, bloating, or loss of appetite can be warning signals.
Eligible participants can register for a pre-screening consultation through the 365CPS website. The consultation is followed by the GASTROClear test at partner clinics. If abnormalities are found, patients will be referred for further testing or treatment at public health facilities.
Members of the public can fill in the registration form here.
