Mark your calendars for November 9, 2024, as Run For Inclusion 2024 marks its 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of promoting inclusivity and integration for persons with special needs (PWSNs). This milestone event will take place at 3 PM amidst the scenic Jurong Lake Gardens, inviting participants from all walks of life to join in the festivities.
As Singapore’s largest inclusive mass running event, Run For Inclusion brings together individuals with various needs—including those who are hard of hearing, physically, visually, and intellectually challenged, as well as those with autism or mental health recovery. Organised by Runninghour, an inclusive sports co-operative, this event is a testament to past achievements and a call to action for a more inclusive future.
Participants can choose from several activities, including running, walking, or cycling, with categories such as a 3km or 5km run/walk, a 10km run, and a 15km cycling event, featuring a tandem option for PWSNs. A standout feature is the blindfold run/walk, where participants experience the challenges faced by the visually impaired by switching roles with a sighted guide.
Leading up to the event, Runninghour will offer free workshops to promote understanding and integration of PWSNs, providing a platform for learning and forming meaningful connections. On the day of the event, participants can also enjoy complimentary water activities including kayaking, dragon boating, and pedal boating, courtesy of Passion Wave @ Jurong Lake Gardens. These activities will be available from 2 PM to 5 PM and are open to all participants and the public.
Run For Inclusion continues to garner strong community support, with over 10,000 participants in previous years. This year’s event aims to attract 2,000 to 2,500 participants, including over 1,000 complimentary entries for PWSNs and their caregivers. The event is supported by prominent sponsors such as Central Singapore Community Development Council, Singapore National Co-operative Federation, Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Farrer Park Hospital.
