In a celebration of 50 years of Singapore-Argentina bilateral relations, Paragon, in partnership with the Embassy of the Argentine Republic, unveiled “Bellows” (in Spanish: “Fuelle”), a sculpture by Argentine Architect and Sculptor Daniel Brandimarte, with Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, as the Guest of Honour.
The unveiling coincides with Argentina’s 208th Independence Day and is part of Paragon’s broader campaign, Rhythms of Unity, showcasing the rich heritage and culture of both nations.
The “Bellows” sculpture pays tribute to iconic bandoneon player and tango composer Anibal Troilo, with its twin currently in Buenos Aires. Sponsored by Dr. Leong Horn Kee and former Non-Resident Ambassadors Michael Hwang, Ow Chio Kiat, and Philip Ng, it was chosen for Paragon after considering various sites.
Over the past 50 years, Singapore and Argentina have developed a robust relationship encompassing trade, investment, and cultural exchanges. The sculpture’s placement at Paragon signifies these strong ties.
Dr. Leong Horn Kee, Non-Resident Ambassador of Singapore to Argentina and Chairman of PARAGON REIT, stated, “We are delighted to have the ‘Bellows’ sculpture housed in Paragon. It is heartening to witness the vibrancy of Argentine culture being brought to local and foreign shoppers as we celebrate the golden jubilee of our diplomatic relations.”
His Excellency Mauricio Nine, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic, expressed his optimism: “This year holds particular significance as we commemorate 50 years of bilateral relations and Argentina’s 208th Independence Day. We hope our endeavours will foster greater cultural appreciation and connection.”
