Wan Qing Dragon Boat Festival 2024: Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall to Host Festive Open House on June 8 & 9

The Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (SYSNMH) invites everyone to the Wan Qing Dragon Boat Festival Open House 2024, set to take place on June 8 and 9. From 10 am to 6 pm each day, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities celebrating Chinese arts, culture, and heritage. Admission is free, though some activities require tickets.

The Dragon Boat Festival, known for its historical and cultural significance, will be brought to life through workshops, live performances, walking tours, and storytelling sessions. This is a unique opportunity to immerse in one of the world’s oldest cultural festivals.

The festival features several hands-on workshops:

  • Chinese Mugwort Scented Candle Making: Learn about the cultural significance of Chinese mugwort and craft your own scented candle.
  • Parent-Child Tri-colour Quinoa Rice Dumpling Making: Create healthier rice dumplings with quinoa alongside your child.
  • DIY Dragon Boat Workshop: Children can build and power their own dragon boats in a STEAM-focused activity.
  • Hakka Aicao Kueh Making: Discover the art of making traditional Hakka Aicao Kueh.
  • Tea-infused Mocktail Making: Beat the heat by crafting refreshing tea-infused mocktails.

Visitors can participate in numerous free activities such as:

  • Public Talk on Dragon Boat Festival: Delve into the festival’s origins and customs.
  • Storytelling Sessions: Enjoy tales of the Dragon Boat Festival.
  • Drop-in Craft Stations: Make DIY Duanwu scented sachets and five-colour bracelets.
  • Mini Games and Robot Dash: Interactive games for children to explore the festival’s traditions.
  • Live Performances: Enjoy music and dance performances by local groups, including a Chinese orchestra, festive drum performance, and lion and dragon dance.

Guided Tours and Trails

Explore the heritage of the Balestier precinct with the Balestier Heritage Healthcare Trail, or join guided tours of the Memorial Hall to learn about Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s revolutionary activities and the 1911 Chinese Revolution’s impact on Singapore.

Culinary Delights

Savor festive delicacies like rice dumplings and herbal tea at the Festive Food & Herbal Tea Tasting booth and try delicious snacks at the Festive Snacks Pop-up Booth by Yue @ Aloft.

Family Fun

Families can enjoy a Dragon Boat Festival Family Fun Contest and Mini Dragon Boat Racing on the Memorial Hall’s lawn, ensuring fun for all ages.
