Huawei’s Groundbreaking Prototype Wins Singapore Land Authority’s OneMap GPT Challenge

Huawei has emerged victorious in the Singapore Land Authority (SLA)’s inaugural OneMap GPT Challenge. Out of 41 entries from various sectors, Huawei’s prototype, “An Inter-generational Itinerary Planner/Property Finder,” was selected as one of the two winners, showcasing innovation at the intersection of geospatial and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

The OneMap GPT Challenge, initiated by SLA in October 2023 with the support of the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) through the Open Innovation Platform (OIP), aimed to harness AI solutions to enhance the functionality of OneMap, Singapore’s authoritative map. Huawei’s prototype, developed by the Applied Intelligence Centre of Excellence of Huawei International on Huawei Cloud, stood out for its groundbreaking approach.

The winning prototype, Huawei’s OneMap GPT, integrates geospatial and generative AI technologies with both public (OneMap) and private sector data to create an interactive inter-generational itinerary planner. This innovative tool empowers residents to plan daily activities and make informed lifestyle decisions, including consumer purchases, based on personalized preferences and real-time data.

By leveraging diverse datasets, including property information from leading agencies like EdgeProp, ERA, and PropNex, as well as government data from OneMap Open datasets, Housing Development Board (HDB) policies, and National Environmental Agency (NEA) weather information, the prototype offers tailored solutions for users. For example, it can assist in planning property viewings or recommending suitable residences based on family proximity and lifestyle preferences.

Huawei’s victory underscores the potential of AI-driven solutions to enhance everyday experiences and streamline decision-making processes. The integration of geospatial and AI technologies opens new avenues for innovation, paving the way for smarter, more efficient solutions that benefit individuals and communities alike.

As Singapore continues to embrace digital transformation, initiatives like the OneMap GPT Challenge play a crucial role in driving innovation and fostering collaboration between industry players and government agencies. Huawei’s success in this challenge demonstrates its commitment to advancing technology and contributing to Singapore’s digital ecosystem.
