At the heart of Armenian Street Party: Peranakan Pasar is a celebration of Peranakan cuisine and culture. The festival kicks off with the unveiling of captivating art installations and immersive experiences that pay homage to the Peranakan way of life.
Singaporean artist Yip Yew Chong takes his first step into digital animation and projection mapping with “Mari Kita Makan,” a visual narrative that illuminates the Peranakan Museum’s façade. From vibrant Nyonya feasts to heartwarming family gatherings, visitors will be transported into the world of Peranakan culinary traditions.
Strolling along Armenian Street, festival-goers will encounter larger-than-life inflatable Peranakan kuehs in a playful installation dubbed “The In-Kueh-Dibles.” Designed to delight, these whimsical creations invite interaction and serve as a backdrop for photo opportunities.
The festival’s opening weekend promises an array of delights, including The Peranakan Pasar, a bustling night market featuring cooking demonstrations, food kiosks, and showcases of kitchenware and antiques. Indulge in Peranakan delicacies from renowned brands like Shermay’s Singapore Fine Food and HarriAnns Nonya Table, and dance the night away at the Afterparty: Peranakan Beats.
For a truly immersive experience, venture into the Peranakan Museum and partake in Tok Panjang: A Communal Dining Experience. This intimate dinner showcases a curated menu of halal-friendly Peranakan cuisine, served on antique tableware amidst performances of traditional dance and music.
Armenian Street Party: Peranakan Pasar also offers unique opportunities to explore Peranakan heritage through interactive tours and workshops. Embark on the Spice Gallery Tour, a collaboration between the National Parks Board and Peranakan Museum, to discover the botanical treasures that have shaped Peranakan cuisine.
Those seeking hands-on experiences can participate in workshops like Wrap It Up! Batik Beeswax Food Wrap Making, led by sustainability advocate Melissa Lam. Visitors can also unleash their creativity with craft activities inspired by Peranakan art and culture.
