Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) 2024: Celebrating Diversity and Creativity

The Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) 2024 is back with a bang, promising an array of captivating performances and thought-provoking events that celebrate the multiplicity of voices in the arts community. Organized by Arts House Limited (AHL) and commissioned by the National Arts Council (NAC), this year’s festival, unveiled by Festival Director Natalie Hennedige at 1-Altitude Coast, promises to be a celebration of creativity and expression like never before.

A Theme of Diversity: They Declare

Under the theme “They Declare,” SIFA 2024 invites audiences to embrace and celebrate diverse beliefs and ways of being. Against the backdrop of the radiant sunset and crashing waves, Hennedige announced the theme, emphasizing the importance of reflecting on our relationship with the natural environment and the myriad voices that surround us.

Cutting-Edge Creations and Transnational Collaborations

True to its reputation as Singapore’s pinnacle performing arts festival, SIFA 2024 will showcase cutting-edge creations and dynamic transnational collaborations. The festival will feature five newly commissioned productions and seven international presentations, offering audiences a glimpse into the rich tapestry of global arts and culture.

Highlights of SIFA 2024

Among the highlights of SIFA 2024 are:

SUARA / Oro Rua: A collaboration between Singaporean music artist Safuan Johari and Māori Choreographer Eddie Elliott, exploring a post-Anthropocene future through original compositions and dance.

WILFUL MACHINE: An interactive performance-installation by Singaporean visual artist Genevieve Chua, examining the concept of artificial intelligence in a world dominated by data and algorithms.

THE PROSE AND THE PASSION: A play by celebrated Singaporean theatre-makers Haresh Sharma and Chong Tze Chien, inspired by the life and works of E. M. Forster.

REFUGE: An interdisciplinary live performance project by iconic Singapore band The Observatory, delving into the relationship between the self and the natural world.

International Offerings

SIFA 2024 will also feature a lineup of international works, including the Southeast Asian debut of the experiential opera performance “SUN & SEA” and a live adaptation of Herman Melville’s “MOBY DICK” by Norwegian director Yngvild Aspeli.

Nurturing New Audiences: Little SIFA

In a bid to nurture new audiences, SIFA 2024 will introduce a special series of family-friendly programs under the banner of “Little SIFA.” Designed to introduce children to the world of performing arts, these programs will include interactive installations and performances tailored for young audiences.

Looking Ahead: Natalie Hennedige’s Tenure Extended

Exciting news for SIFA enthusiasts: Natalie Hennedige’s tenure as Festival Director has been extended until 2025. Known for her bold programming and commitment to artistic excellence, Hennedige’s leadership promises to continue pushing the boundaries of performance art in Singapore.

Early Bird Tickets

Early bird tickets for SIFA 2024 will be available from February 20th, offering audiences a 15% discount on ticket prices.
