Bumble Inc. Deception Detector: AI-Powered Solution to Combat Spam, Scams, and Fake Profiles

In honor of Safer Internet Day, Bumble Inc. (NASDAQ: BMBL) has announced a groundbreaking new feature, the Deception Detector, aimed at fortifying its commitment to fostering genuine and secure connections. Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), this innovative tool is designed to identify and preemptively address spam, scams, and fake profiles, offering users a safer online experience. Remarkably, within just two months of its launch, Bumble witnessed a significant 45% decrease in member reports concerning spam, scam, and fake accounts.

Recent research conducted by Bumble highlights the widespread concern regarding fake profiles and the looming threat of scams among online daters globally. Alarmingly, nearly half of female respondents (46%) expressed apprehension about the authenticity of their online matches, indicating a pervasive issue that could potentially hinder the formation of meaningful connections.

The insights stem from Bumble Inc.’s State of the Nation Report 2023, which surveyed 28,000 individuals worldwide. The data, commissioned by Bumble Inc., was collected between September 20 and October 5, 2023, through research conducted by Censuswide, adhering to the highest ethical standards.

The Deception Detector introduces a sophisticated machine learning-based model to assess profile authenticity and connections across Bumble Inc.’s platforms. Impressively, during testing, this feature demonstrated an ability to automatically block 95% of identified spam and scam accounts. This cutting-edge technology operates alongside human support to ensure a safe and empowering community environment.

This release marks the latest in a series of AI innovations by Bumble Inc., aimed at combating misogyny, harassment, and toxicity online. The company’s ongoing commitment to responsible technology is evidenced by previous initiatives such as the Private Detector, which uses AI to detect and blur explicit images, and the utilization of AI for photo verification, a pioneering move in the dating app industry. Additionally, Bumble recently introduced Best Bees, an AI algorithm that enhances curation for members.

As a founding member and the first dating app to collaborate with the Partnership on AI, Bumble Inc. underscores its dedication to ethical and responsible tech practices. The rollout of the Deception Detector across Bumble, Badoo, and Bumble For Friends demonstrates the company’s commitment to user safety and authenticity in the online sphere.
