Giant Panda Le Le Embarks on a New Chapter, Safely Arrives in China via Specially Arranged Singapore Airlines Flight

Giant Panda, Le Le, safely touched down at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport on January 16, 2024, marking a new beginning for the adorable cub. The arrival follows a meticulously arranged Singapore Airlines flight that transported Le Le from Singapore to China, setting the stage for his second round of quarantine.

Having completed the initial stage of quarantine at River Wonders in the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Le Le is now undergoing further monitoring at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda (CCRCGP). The dedicated team will closely observe him during this period to determine the most suitable permanent residence post-quarantine.

Departure day was an emotional affair as the panda care team prepared Le Le for his flight, bidding heartfelt goodbyes before his customised travel crate was loaded onto an air-conditioned truck bound for Singapore Changi Airport on January 16, 2024. Present at the tarmac to bid farewell were Minister of State (Trade & Industry) Mr Alvin Tan, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Singapore, Mr Zhu Jing, and Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Singapore, Ms Qin Wen. The management of Mandai Wildlife Group, Singapore Airlines (SIA), SATS, and Changi Airport Group (CAG) also joined to witness the loading of Le Le’s crate onto the specially arranged SIA Boeing 747-400F freighter aircraft.

Le Le was not alone on his journey; his keeper and veterinarian from Mandai Wildlife Group, along with a dedicated keeper from China, accompanied him on the flight. Their presence ensured Le Le’s well-being, and he took well to the journey, maintaining a healthy appetite by munching on bamboo and bamboo shoots throughout the flight.

Le Le’s arrival in China marks a significant milestone as he officially joins China’s giant panda conservation program, contributing to the protection and preservation of his species. This heartwarming tale of international cooperation and dedication to wildlife conservation highlights the collaborative efforts made to ensure a bright future for giant pandas like Le Le.
