Gaming peripherals manufacturer, Razer, has unveiled a groundbreaking commitment to sustainability with the incorporation of recycled materials in its new line of PC products set to launch throughout 2024 and beyond. Focusing initially on its core PC peripherals – mice, keyboards, and headsets – Razer aims to reduce its environmental footprint while delivering cutting-edge gaming technology.
Razer’s sustainability initiative will see recycled materials featured in its core PC peripherals, starting with mice, keyboards, and headsets. Initially, the recycled materials will be introduced in models sporting Razer’s signature black base colorway, with plans to expand the initiative to more product categories over time.
The move follows Razer’s successful experimentation with recycled materials in two products – the Razer DeathAdder V2 X HyperSpeed gaming mouse (40% recycled materials) and the Razer Ornata V3 ergonomic clicky gaming keyboard (at least 20%). Both products have achieved the UL 2809 ECOLOGO label, an independently verified ecolabel certification from UL Solutions, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification.
Beyond incorporating recycled materials, Razer is actively exploring the recyclability of its products to minimize the ‘end of life’ environmental impact. By concentrating on both recycled materials and recyclability, Razer aims to reduce the reliance on virgin materials, embrace circularity in product design, and further mitigate the environmental impact of its gaming peripherals.
Razer’s commitment to environmental transparency is exemplified by its products becoming the world’s first consumer electronics to receive certification with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) by UL Solutions. The Razer Basilisk V3 Pro and Razer Basilisk Ultimate achieved this milestone, showcasing carbon footprint, water, mineral, and fossil resource usage information on their product packaging. The EPD certification empowers consumers to make informed choices about their purchases, aligning with Razer’s dedication to sustainability.
Since launching its ten-year sustainability plan, #GoGreenWithRazer, in 2021, Razer has achieved significant milestones in its sustainability journey. This includes adopting the Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) reporting framework, detailing its decarbonization strategy aligned with Science Based Targets (SBT), and achieving the goal of having all corporate offices powered by 100% renewable energy three years ahead of the 2025 goal. Razer has also made history as the first consumer electronic brand to protest deep-sea mining of minerals.
