As the Year of the Dragon approaches, MILO is set to illuminate the cultural tradition of lion dance, collaborating with the renowned lion dance world champion, Yiwei Athletic Association. In an effort to spotlight the hard work and dedication of lion dance performers, MILO aims to bring Singaporeans closer to this rich cultural art form that often takes a back seat during the Chinese New Year festivities.
Yiwei Athletic Association, the reigning lion dance world champion, boasts various accolades from international and regional competitions, including a gold title at the 14th World Lion Dance Championships in Genting, Malaysia. However, the road to victory has not been without its challenges.
The troupe’s rigorous training regimen involves four sessions per week, extending late into the evening after their regular day jobs. Maneuvering at heights, navigating obstacles, and carrying heavy lion head props test their physical fitness and endurance. Overcoming the lack of a dedicated training space, the troupe even converted their office’s car park into a makeshift training ground, showcasing their resilience and dedication to the art.
Recognizing the lion dance as a representation of active energy, resilience, and courage, MILO aims to elevate the profile of Yiwei Athletic Association and foster a deeper connection with the community. For the first time ever, the iconic MILO Van will hit the streets during the Chinese New Year season, bringing Yiwei’s winning talents directly to the public.
On 13 January 2024, from 12 pm to 3 pm at Westgate and on 28 January 2024, from 2 pm to 5 pm at Marina Square, spectators can witness thrilling lion dance performances while enjoying a refreshing cup of MILO. The events will be hosted by popular Mediacorp influencers Mayiduo and Simonboy, adding excitement and interaction with the audience and the talented troupe.
Adding an extra layer of excitement, MILO invites Singaporeans to participate in the 龙ing for Gold Lucky Draw from 5 January to 8 February 2024. Daily, three lucky winners will receive a 1g gold bar, and one fortunate winner will walk away with a 10g gold bar each week. A total of 110 lucky winners will be selected during the promotion period.
To join, simply purchase a MILO 200ml Dragon Pack (containing 2 cartons of MILO Original 200ml chocolate malt drink) from participating retailers and e-commerce platforms, including FairPrice, Cold Storage, Giant, Sheng Siong, Shopee, Lazada, FairPrice Online, and more.
