[Review] Nikon x Gaston Luga’s Collaborative Backpack: Camera Bag that can Double as a Travel Bag

Nikon Singapore recently unveiled its second collaboration with Gaston Luga, introducing the Gaston Luga x Nikon backpack. This exciting partnership arrives alongside the Z f launch—a groundbreaking mirrorless camera uniting Nikon’s iconic design with cutting-edge imaging innovation.

We got our hands on the new backpack and love the elegant, minimalistic, yet functional design:

Designed for individuals passionate about meticulous craftsmanship and a keen eye for detail, this collaboration is said to delve into the artistry of creation. It aims to empower creators on their artistic journey, emphasising that “life is a work of art.”We can totally vibe with this.

“Life itself becomes a canvas, and every moment an opportunity to create art,” expresses John Young, General Manager of International Marketing, Imaging Group at Nikon Singapore.

“Our collaboration with Gaston Luga aims to inspire individuals to see the world through a creative lens, appreciating its beauty and immortalizing it with our innovative imaging technology.”

The Z f camera, the centerpiece of this collaboration, houses groundbreaking features, including a vari-angle monitor, touch-operation capabilities, and the EXPEED 7 processor for unparalleled imaging capabilities. It also introduces a dedicated monochrome selector, pixel shift shooting mode, enhanced Vibration Reduction, and precise subject detection in manual focus.

The GL x Nikon backpack, meticulously designed by Gaston Luga, caters specifically to content creators’ needs. Crafted with premium water-resistant materials, it offers ample protection and thoughtful compartments for camera equipment. Its functional yet stylish design makes it an ideal companion for creators on their artistic pursuits.

Even if you are not using it to store camera gears, the multiple compartments can be cleverly used as a multi-purpose backpack for travel, sports or other functional aspects:

“We believe that life is a work of art, waiting to be discovered,” states Jonas Wistrand, CEO of Gaston Luga.

“The new Z f and GL x Nikon backpack allow content creators to capture life’s richness and joy. Gaston Luga’s functional aesthetics paired with Nikon’s imaging technology push the boundaries of content creation.”

Specifications of the GL x Nikon backpack include water-resistant material, a detachable camera holder, adjustable dividers, inner pockets for laptops and tablets, and a suitcase-style opening for easy access.

We like how the camera bag doesn’t even look like a regular camera bag at first glance. All the functionalities required of a camera bag are there, sans the boring, boxy design. We think it is ideal as a travel backpack as well, even for non camera enthusiasts.

For instance, as the bag can only be fully opened from behind, it is useful in doubling up as an anti-theft traveling backpack, with neat, customisable compartments to divide up your stuff.

Customisable compartments

If you need to grab something quickly, there are accessible zip pockets on the sides for you to reach in:

This bag is going with us on our next travel adventure for sure!

The Z f and the backpack is now available at Nikon Experience Hub in Singapore and Gaston Luga’s online store, priced at SGD 269.
