The turquoise waters of the Maldives have shimmered with an extra layer of excitement as the picturesque island nation welcomed its first tourist of 2024. Benjamin Duncan Moore, a British adventurer, stepped onto Maldivian soil and into a tropical oasis, marking the beginning of what promises to be an unforgettable leisure holiday at Villa Nautica.
The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), also known as Visit Maldives, orchestrated a special celebratory event at Velena International Airport to honor this momentous occasion. Benjamin, arriving on flight EY278 from Abu Dhabi, was greeted by officials from the Ministry of Tourism, MMPRC, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Immigration, Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun Public Limited (Dhiraagu), and Crossroads Maldives.
The Minister of Tourism, Honourable Ibrahim Faisal, along with key figures such as Mr. Mohamed Bassam Adam (Deputy Managing Director of MMPRC), Mr. Ibrahim Hareef (Deputy Chief Officer, AOCC & Customer Relations of MACL), and Mr. Ali Sunan (Deputy Head of Airport Division, Deputy Chief Immigration Officer), joined hands to extend a warm Maldivian greeting. Representatives from Dhiraagu and Crossroads Maldives, including Mr. Mohamed Mirshan Hassan and Mr. Alexander Traeger, added their flair to the celebration.
Benjamin was not only welcomed with open arms but also showered with gifts. Crossroads Maldives offered him a complimentary holiday with stays at the luxurious SAii Lagoon Maldives and the iconic Hard Rock Hotel Maldives. Additionally, special gifts poured in from the Ministry of Tourism, MMPRC, MACL, Maldives Immigration, and Dhiraagu, creating an unforgettable start to his Maldivian adventure.
Reflecting on the past, MMPRC highlighted its stellar achievements in 2023. The Maldives secured the coveted title of WTA’s ‘World’s Leading Destination’ for the fourth consecutive year and was honored as the ‘World’s Leading Tourist Board 2023.’ The destination also bagged the prestigious Global Tourism Resilience Award, recognizing its capacity to recover swiftly and thrive after disruptions.
Looking ahead, MMPRC outlined its ambitious plans for 2024. With a focus on data-driven insights and research-based methodologies, the Maldives aims to propel its tourism industry even further. Collaborating with industry stakeholders, NGOs, local councils, and associations, the country is committed to fostering sustainable tourism growth. Social media presence will be amplified, and strategic marketing campaigns will be deployed to showcase the Maldives as an irresistible holiday destination.
As the adventure begins with Benjamin, the Maldives sets the stage for a year of unparalleled exploration and discovery.
